Enter the hashtag you want to search across Mastodon (don’t include the #) and click the Submit button. The Instances.Social API will be queried to find the top 100 instances with more than 1000 users and those instances will be queried for your hashtags. Results will (sometimes) be returned in order of date (trying to figure that out.) Images are not returned because it bogged things way down unless I limited the number of results, and I want to make this a quick way to explore.
